Global Day of Prayer 2009
GLOBAL DAY OF PRAYER was held on Pentecost Sunday: 31st May 2009. We are thrilled that so many churches, towns and cities have participated in our nation in the past few years. Even more centres throughout New Zealand were expected to get involved this year in conducting united gatherings of Christians to pray earnestly and expectantly for the evangelisation of this nation and the world! For more information email John Fulford. It all began in 2001 in a stadium in Cape Town, South Africa, where 45,000 Christians gathered to plead with God for the salvation of their nation and all of Africa. In 2002 the gatherings had spread to 8 cities of South Africa. In 2003, all the major cities of sub-Sahara Africa were included. In 2004, all of the 56 nations of Africa, from Cape to Cairo participated. In 2005, Africa invited all the world to join in, and we in New Zealand were among the many that responded, which included some 28 towns and cities through this nation. This year, of the 220 nations of the world, virtually ALL are committed to taking part in some way! This is indeed the biggest prayer meeting in the history of the world! And these gatherings continue to 2010!
I sincerely hope that you will want to be included - for your church or town or city, and I look forward eagerly to hearing from you and assisting and encouraging you in any way that I can.
Send us an email or phone me at 09-83 23 464 for resources and suggestions -- And be sure to email me YOUR news on what you are doing in your area -- Thanks!
Yours for Christ for all -
John Fulford, VISION Network of NZ
"Prayer for Evangelism" Co-ordinator

AUCKLAND - Royal Oak Baptist Church, Cnr Symonds & Erson Streets, off Royal Oak roundabout. Every year between Ascension Day and Pentecost Day we hold a 24/7 prayer vigil. This year our intended focus is "our God is a consuming fire" (Heb 12:29). He ascended to Heaven to prepare us to fight His good fight in the world by sending his Holy Spirit. Let us answer that call and know that God is "the fire in the cloud" so that all people will see it (Ex 40:38). We plan to start the vigil with an Ascension Day informal service on Friday 22 May at 7:30pm. A special prayer space (venue) is being proposed so that people can come and go at any time of the day or night in one-hour slots. It would be an interactive space where people can meet God "face to face" and commune with Him in their own way, either through music, silence, drawing, writing, DVD, sand, water, etc. The vigil will conclude with a Pentecost service on Sunday morning 31 May @ 10:00am - at the same time New Zealand will be the first country to set off the Global Day of Prayer. You are very welcome to join our prayer roster.

TE PUKE - In Te Puke we are doing something different re GDOP. We are doing a 24/7 prayer for Te Puke , this nation and the World, but because the GDOP falls on Queen's B/D weekend the young leaders who are doing much of the work for this prayer event felt to do it the week before the GDOP and get more young people involved. So starting on Sunday 17th there will be continuous prayer around the clock for a week and it will finish with a grand finale combined churches prayer meeting on the Sunday 24th for the nations of the world. I have chosen to take Psalm 23 and with help from people from all churches will visually present this in an interactive prayer display to fill the whole of the Mosaic Church here in Te Puke. There will be an entire room dedicated to Global Prayer needs and facts too. Different churches are responsible for one day of the week's prayer roster to ensure that someone will be at the church every hour of the 7 days of prayer. It will be awesome!

ROTORUA - We have agreed with our pastors to mobilise other believers in the city for prayer. We have 33 churches in the city and only 10 of these are in the pastors association, but we are putting up a pack for all the churches in the city regarding GDOP and aiming for 10 churches to cover the 10days of prayer in hourly slots, and involve the other churches too. We are really praying [through small women's prayer group which meet every wed.] to get through to as many as we can, and the Lord is already opening doors so we give him the glory! - believing God for a mighty move! Our church will participate too with an international day where different nationalities will pray in their languages as we translate in English - about 7 languages will be used so this is so exciting!

TE PAHU - (Raglan/Hamilton Area) - The Van As family have been participating in GDOP since 2007. We are doing GDOP as a family of 5. God put it on our hearts to pray for the Te Pahu area, as Christians here are few and far between! Our community need God in their lives, and we've been praying for a breakthrough in hardened hearts. We are following the 10days of prayer, followed by GDOP & then continue on to 90 days of blessing. Since the children are being homeschooled, it is easy for us to spend an hour each morning dedicated to GDOP. Blessings from Te Pahu.

On Pentecost Sunday we're having 7am prayer at the Oamaru Lookout, and at 7pm meeting as Combined Church at Elim this year. We're hoping to have the many nations of Oamaru participate here. We're still planning the 90 Days of Blessing... Good things take time to mature!
